The gym reopened today. Sparsely populated, no problem with social distancing. Only one other person and I were wearing masks. I pushed hard on a stationary bike to see if the mask impeded my output--it did. But, only one other person was using a cardio machine, and he was far away. I'm going to play this one day at a time. The pool we use for lap swimming, which is my wife and my regular cardio, is still closed. No idea when mine's going to reopen again unfortunately. Just got back from the gym. Did Legs, back, bicep, stairs, and bike. I was in better shape than I thought. No soreness; maybe that will come tomorrow. Not many people there. However, I went before noon which I never do. I was the only one wearing a mask.

I was the only one wearing a mask. That'd make me nervous, especially with heavier-than-normal breathing all over the place. Six feet distance isn't enough for sneezes and coughs -- it's been measured at over twice that distance. Plus it can linger in the air for a number of minutes, sometimes many minutes. Since cotton and surgical masks do very little to protect the wearer, I don't want to go near people who can't be bothered to help protect the people around them...! Stay safe, guys!

We've had our first intoxication manslaughter charge since the bars opened back up Friday. A 29-year-old man died Friday night after striking a truck driven by a suspected drunken driver who failed to yield, Dallas police say. At about 8:20 p.m., the motorcyclist hit the left side of a Ford F-150 that did not yield the right of way from a stop at Ranchero Lane and Duncanville Road. Alejandro Ortiz was ejected from the motorcycle and taken to a local hospital, where he died, police said. The driver of the Ford, 60-year-old Bryan Howard, was found to be intoxicated and was arrested, police said. Howard was being held in the Dallas County jail and faces an intoxication manslaughter charge. His bail has not been set. https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/m...n-driver-arrested-dallas-police/2375156/

Our gym is beginning to fill up a little. But so far, no old people except me.
The pool my wife and I were using for our main cardio is in a high-end senior luxo development. It's been closed since mid-March, and the website says, "...until further notice." Granted, most of the people there are pretty old, and thus potentially more vulnerable. But, I think the management is prolonging the shutdown because the pool (and the attached small gym) are a big loss leader for them--they have at least six full time employees, and even with nonresidents like us paying dues, they're losing money.

In my small corner of the world, we have over 13,000 confirmed cases and closing in on 700 dead. We know several people who have been sick and several that have died. In one case, a man my daughter worked with died from the virus, along with his wife and daughter, all within a few weeks of each other. We have just entered Phase 1.
My daughter and her husband are in healthcare. They both work with people who have tested positive, but so far, thank God, they have been spared. Our sheer number of cases and high infection rate are terrifying. I wouldn't dream of leaving my home without a mask and gloves, and then it's only to the grocery store. I try to buy in bulk and limit those visits to twice a month. We tried ordering through Instacart, but we couldn't even get on the schedule.
Do not underestimate this bug. It is nasty beyond belief.

Our county reported 28 new cases on Saturday and one death. They still planning on reopening or are they going to slow down now with the uprise? Per the Governor's instructions, the county is pretty much open. One college is opening next week, though phased in, and the universities will open in the fall. Still don't know about public schools.

That's the liberal media for you (and my biggest bone of contention, followed by politicians). Great seeing you back afsaneh77 and hope you're staying safe!
Well, they get us when we are young. Then some of us see the light when we are older. Thanks Irishman! I try. You too stay safe.
