On this day in 1983, Roy DeMeo, a Gambino Family hitman, was killed. His body was found in the trunk of his car a few days later. Its been generally accepted that Family boss Paul Castellano ordered the hit because DeMeo was becoming too well known to federal officials (after allegedly killing over 50 men).
DeMeo's life was recounted in the book "Murder Machine" by Gene Mustain and Jerry Capeci.
