Mob Killing (by SC)
On this day in 1957 Gambino Family underboss, Frank Scalise, was shot dead by two gunmen as he was buying fruit. The shooting occured at 2380 Arthur Avenue in The Bronx. Family boss Albert Anastasia would be shot to death some four months later.
Scalise's shooting was a loose basis for the scene in "The Godfather" in which Vito Corleone was gunned down while buying fruit.
